Winston Churchill's "Iron Curtain"!
The European Continent was split by an unimaginable line which divided political, military, and economic views.
- The Prime Minister Winston Churchill described this line as an "Iron Curtain".
- Countries either sided with each superpower or stayed neutral.
- The countries followed their preferred superpower's political institutions, economic systems, and foreign policies.
Below are the the unique aspects of the TWO SUPERPOWERS split by the "Iron Curtain"!

A Divided Germany
Berlin Wall
Even though the Berlin Wall limited most of the immigration between the two regions, the necessity of it in the first place has a deeper meaning. The need for the wall in the first place was to keep from people moving out of the region, meaning that they did not like the policies of communism. This brought shame to the Soviet Union and more power to the Federal Republic of Germany has civilians liked their lifestyle, proving their point. |
The Nuclear Arms Race
- the central danger to the cold war was the competitive "arms race" and possible spread of nuclear weapons.
- NATO and Warsaw Pact were military pacts produced in response to the U.S. and Soviet Union struggle.
- In the hunger of wanting to surpass each other, both sides started to mass produce thermonuclear weapons and creating systems to use these weapons.
- When the Soviet Union came to the level of U.S. both sides reached "essential equivalence" and MAD(mutually assured destruction).
